What does the comunity think of putting a loader on any of the h or m series or 300 or 400 series tractors.

Live hydraulics and power steering are definitely nice things to have on a loader. You can add them (at a cost) to an H or M. If you are planning on heavy lifting an H might be too light, but if you are just planning on lifting less than 1000 lbs, the H should work.

A 460 or 560 Diesel will probably run as economically as anything on fuel, but unless you have grown up or have a fondness for diesels, you might be better of staying with a gas (and NOT a 560 gas either). The problem with the 460-560 is that they are long and not quite as handy as the H, M, 300/350 or 400/450 tractors.

The 300/350 (enhanced H) or 400/450 (enhanced M) tractors are probably the best all around option for a loader but the initial outlay might be higher than for an M or H. Personally, I have an M (with live hydraulics, power steering and wide front with oversized rear tires) that is a very useful and handy rig in my opinion. It will lift large round bales up to about 1500 lbs and stay reasonably stable while doing it.

Two words "live hydraulics". Go 300/400 or newer with wide front, some have power steering that makes it that much easier. 400/450 has a bigger (faster) hydraulic pump with more power. 300/350 is lighter and burns a LOT less fuel.

thousands of Ms have lived under loaders for years and are still working daily. In my opinion the H is a little light for loader work.

Assuming you have none of these tractors, and all you want the tractor for is a front loader, I would look for an older H, because you would have enough horse power to do most anything the loader for any of the tractors you listed was designed for. YOu"d have the minimum investment, and the least in operating costs. Assuming that you have all of these tractors, H, M, 300, and 400, I"d still use the H for a front loader for many of the same reasons, and have available the other tractors for other things which would better utilize their other features. You only need the belly pump hydraulics of the H to operate the front loader. For many folks, The "Old H" is there as a dedicated front loader tractor and nothing more, except an occasional turn on the conveyor or grinding mill.
