Sounds silly to me as the gasket set is the same with or without water pump as the same gasket is used. Water pumps could be added by bolting and unbolting the lower water outlet so with or without pump the gasket set is the same.

The head gasket that goes with the water pump has smaller coolant passages.

If it has a water pump it would have been added at a later date. It would be built into the water inlet elbow bolted to the front of the block.

Hi Tom,I have an A with a snow plow and an add on Monarch hyd.pump. You can work hard without overheating even though there is no coolant/water pump.I always idle down a little before shuting off the motor.Any way you could post a picture of yours?[I already tried it and failed.Beleive it or not with a John Deere photo of all things].I love my little A.

Your engine number shows this is a 1940 and the block was cast on August 27, 1940. It has thermosyphon cooling.

Hi Tom...The engine serial number is on the top right front corner of the block. Right side is the side your oil filter is on. If yours has a water pump it would be the first A I have seen with one...Good luck...Dixieland
