Sure enough as soon as I pay for the rebuilt carb for my 300. I notice a nice crack in the manifold on my 400. Ordered one off ebay for $140 free shipping and made in USA too. Comes with pipe and gaskets. I love ebaying for tractor parts. Buy a part wile still in jammies.

hey tractor vet...what would keep me from putting a 450 manifold on my M? its got the M&W Firecraters in it. The carb number is 50983 DC and it is bigger that a standard M carb. Is this a Super M carb maybe??

So what ya going to do with that 460 now?

I saw that some sort of auction place had high bid. That thing deserves a nice home.

Glad to hear it. I know you haven't had that tractor long, but it looked too nice to let go.

The problem with them after market parts like the manifold are that they are all made like the old M's . I just wished that someone would make them like the 450 gas manifolds and even like the 450 LP's if ya want to get a few more poneys out of one . That is why my one old custermer is getting over 90 out of his S/MTA and a couple of others we can only get 84 -86 out of the rest with the same pistons and head and carb Cam and dist and govener set up that is the only thing that is differant.

Tractorvet, there is a big differance in those manifolds, I have a couple of spares, one is just a regular M manifold, the other is for either a late super M or an early 400. It's easy to see why the later one is more desirable.

How what do I have to do?
Sounds like a good project for next winter.

Kelly, its possible, there is lots of options to do, that cost around the price of an Inframe overhaul kit. I make a kit that makes 70-80 hp stock stroke, stock bore, high compression piston sets. Id find a M&W stroker, or have one made up to match the specs. Im building a 450 right now, that has a 5-3/4 stroke X 4-1/8 bore, that will make 100 hp, and plow all day long. No funny parts to try to find if a rebuild is nessisary, its all 100%IH! I think in all the parts, I had less than 2000$ for 100 hp. Sorry for the ad plug there, but its what I specialize in! ChadS

You need to see what Vern's S/MTA can do , I was there the night that he was choppen corn with it and a 1 row I H chopper and was just paddlen along the corn was higher then the top of the wagon roof i told Vern that the old girl was running good he said watch this and slide her into second and opened the throttel up went about 100 feet and blew the gear box wide open on the chopper never even slowed the engine down and his 706 had all it wanted on it the day before all he said when the gear box blew was guess i need a bigger chopper the next day we put it on the dyno and it topped out at 96.5 hp.at rated rpm. It will also pull 3x16 plow in 4th with the stick ahead no need for discen.

Hey you guys are making me feel a tingle. I sure do love my 400. If I could give her enough power to do all my work that would be heaven.

Kelly,
I don't doubt for one second you can't get 70+hp easy out of your 400. But with gas is where its at. Can you hardly afford to run it? Ross
