If you are only getting slight grind when putting tractor ib gear try pushing clutch in pulling liftall handle back and waiting couple of seconds before putting in gear. My Dad wore out several new Hs and Ms and he habitualy always did this before putting tractor in gear and yes they do wear out with the best of care if you put 2,000 hours a year for a few years on them.

I would still go with finger adjustment but don't know if you can do it in tractor. There is a setting in the book allowing a certain distance fromsurface when clutch on flat surface. I had trouble when I replaced the clutch plate on my smta and had to take it apart again. If fingers aren't adjusted right it won't release properly, not jsut a matter of all hitting the throwout bearing at the same time.

DAR Could be the fingers are not adjusted right, or the drive member does not slid free on the splines, to much free peddel. Could be bad pilot bearing. If you put it in gear and stop the gears from turning, then take it out of gear and hold the clutch will the gears start turning again. If so I would say bad pilot bearing or the finger adjustment. You can adjust the fingers with the clutch in the tractor. I can't tell you the adjustment because I always could adjust fingers on a machine for just that.

it is also a new pilot bearing ant the fingers were adjusted so that they all touch the throw out bearing evenly. the gears start moving again after you take it out of gear.
