W4 high oil pressure

What would be the typical reasons for high oil pressure on my W4? I replaced the temporary “replacement” gauges w/ Rochester’s thinking the range might be wrong but the pressure still reads all the way at the high end of the range. The manual says it should be center of range. There’s also some oil accumulating on top half of engine (around valve cover). Is a blocked crankcase breather or pump intake screen a possible problem area? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If the INTAKE screen were blocked, you'd get no oil pressure...

Nope, oil's gettin' in, but it ain't gettin' out. I wonder if the passages the oil uses to get back down from the valve cover back to the engine are bad...

High oil pressure is way better than low pressure. Because it hasn't ruptured seals or blown gaskets yet, I would put on a master gage that reads to 150 PSI or more and see what it is actually pumping. The pressure regulator spool may be stuck shut allowing full pressure to go to the engine bearings. With clean correct wt oil (for the temperature) pressure of 75# is not unheard of. If your oil has been thickened with additives, or is too thick to begin with that may be the issue. 20w40, or 15w 40 oil works in our letter tractors just fine. (though I may stir the water with this recommendation)

Thanks...i"m using straight 30W non-detergent. The previous "universal" gauge i had on there had a limit of 75# and the needle was buried.
