I recently purchased a WD-9 tractor (diesel engine with a gas starting engine). I cannot find an ignition switch to start the gasoline engine.

I thought it would have been located on the dash below the streering wheel between the clutch and brakes adjacent to the choke rod and starter lever, but nothing is there.

Can anyone tell me where the ignition switch is suppose to be and is there anything unusual about starting the gasoline engine?

Thanks

Billcrews, Is your ignition system Mag or Distributor? If distributor then it will have a kill switch.

The ignition switch (kill switch for the magneto) is located in a chamber in the front end of the manifold. Should be a wire from the kill terminal on the mag to the chamber going through a hole with a grommet. As Paul said, the switch is operated by the gas/diesel switchover lever along with all the other things that go on when the lever is changed over from gas to diesel and also the other way around.

Bill, There is no operator operated ignition switch on a WD9. Now let me qualify that statement. There is a kill switch, but it is integrated within the changeover mechanism. You start the tractor on gasolene with the diesel throttle shut down, and the switchover handle in the gasolene operating position. After the engine has warmed up on gasolene (approximately 1 minute), you switch over to diesel and at the same time give it some throttle. This automatically shuts off the gasolene supply, and grounds out the ignition system. So in essence, the operator is killing the gasolene portion of the engine, but it is not an event in and of itself, but part of the switchover process.

probably a magneto on the engine so there should be a grounding kill switch but not nesissarily. Is there a wire hooked to the terminal on the side of the mag?

Thanks Redrider, Hass, Paul and Cowman. You have enabled me to go have an idea of what happens and what to do.
