I"ve heard this is quite common. Is a Case IH 685 flywheel neccesary to pull this one off? Anyone know other details involved in upgrade? Also converting to frreplay style throwout bearing instead of constant mesh. Does this require different cluth release mechanism?
Thanks, Mac

Hi Mac, do you want to install the HD 6 pad clutch from a 685 in your 485?
When we changed the clutch in our 454 (older version of 485), we installed the HD 6 pad clutch and pressure plate from a 684. The original clutch was only a 2 pad clutch. We used the same HD 6 pad clutch and pressure plate from 684 on my brother's 495. One OEM clutch manufature recommended a woven clutch for any tractor used with a front end loader.

My 2 cents

Hi Mac, you cannot change the 685 flywheel for a 485 one and none the reverse. The flywheel for a 179, 3 cylinder, have a half moon weight,as a balancer, in the flywheel. The 239 have a gears balancer in the oil pan. For the bearing, put a spring to keep a ressure on the clutch pedal. Bernard le mécano Québec Canada
