LP was not available from the factory until the Super M came out. Therefore there was no LP head for the early conversions. Far as I know the SM LP head will fit an M, for those who converted after the SM came out, someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

super m lp used a 8060 gasoline head. the high compression 364586 head didn't come until the late 400lp's.

Suits me -- I just assumed when IH went to LP they changed heads, as I have read about "high compression LP heads" on this board. Probably because the distillate/kerosene/gasoline heads were different-- I should never assume anything. Going to stop making statements about tractor parts for which I have no parts manuals.

They all look the same, fit the same, run the same. Almost all of our M, SuperM, SMTA, and 400's were factory installed systems with 12 volt distributors, coils, batterys. The lights were 6 volt w/resistors. I use them almost every day cause they are all that I know how to keep running year after year. By the way, I'm in the Pecos Valley in southeastern New Mexico. I have about 14 of them and keep 4 running. Am attaching a photo of my old stand by SM (with several add ons). I'm a 73 year old retired school teacher/farmer/sheep rancher and still work on my little farm every day. OOPS Cannot get the image attached----don't know how to do it!The reason I have so many of these old tractors, my ex-students would see me working on my old super M and stop and say, Ottie I got one of those in my bone yard, if you want it -go get it.

Except for diesels, factory 12 volt systems might have appeared on the 450, but not earlier -- what you have are 12 volt conversions. 6 volt lights with resistors are ok, but you can buy 12 volt bulbs and toss the resistors. As to the 12 volt coils, even on my 460 (factory 12 volt), the coil is 6 volt, with a resistor. I haven't posted pictures, but my understanding you either upload them on another site or in the Tractor Photos section of this site, and cut and paste.
