I have a 1951 Super C with the cultivator rigging mounted on the frame toward the front. It has a narrow front end but would like to switch to a wide so I can straddle beds of veggies. I've noticed some wide front ends sit about flush with the back of the radiator and others sit further forward flush with the front of the radiator. Was the forward sitting one made to avoid a conflict with the cultivator or did front ends just change over the years? Love cultivating with this tractor, but want to make it a bit more versatile. Are there many wide front ends by themselves available out there and what might they cost? Thanks.

There are two different WFE used on C's and Super C's. Both of them require a larger dia. turning radis than either a single wheel or tricycle front end. You can shorten the the dia by extending the center steering arm 1". The different WFE's are in the tie rods one is the old style ball and socket system and the other is the newer regular new style tie rod ends.

Hi Dale, I like the narrow front end too for cultivating. The WFE would be more stable on steep hillsides. Hal

Dale, The wFE on a C or Super C projects our further than other models. The main axle would be just ahead of the grill. They are adjustable in width to accomodate row spacing, but not easy to adjust if allowed through the years to seize up. the same cultivator master mounts attach the same as for narrow front. You would also in all probability need a longer crank in case you need to hand start, as I have found that the shorter cranks just don"t clear the front axle. Most tractors steer easier with WFE, but I find the C to be the exception. I think the narrow front you have gives you much more maneuverability. From here on, its your call.

I have one with a wide and one with a tricycle. I love the wide front end and hate the tricycle. If you put on a WFE, make sure you have good brakes and use them to make the turns a bit tighter.

"Hate" is a pretty strong word, what's wrong with the single front? Some people just like the way a WFE looks, has nothing to do with it being functional.

I've got a 1950 C with the WFE. It's all original and runs good. Needs restoring. $ 1200.oo buys the whole thing and you'll have two tractors. in Ohio 614 348-5411

Cs with a wide front steer like a pig. last summer, I put one on my C to straddle the squash, and wound up taking it off. It would not turn short enough to cultivate the next set of rows in the potatoes. The steering arm need to be longer.

I don't know anything about Super C wide front ends. But depending on where you live in Michigan, in Grant MI there is a equipment place with acres of scrap tractors for parts. Last summer I bought a wide front axle for my Super A from them for $200. Roeters Farm Equipment 231-834-7888

IMO, you would be better of with a single front wheel, much more manuverable. WFE's on the H and M were adjustable, not sure about the C. With a single front, nothing interferes with anything. Steel Wheel Ranch-785-548-7437 has WFE's for the H and M, something like $500-1000, depending on condition; don't know if Mike has any for the C or not.
