Did all of the 54 series SH tractors have the clevis style frontend castings? Also should the 54 hydraulic reservoir be towards the front of the gasoline tank or more towards the back of the tank? Thanks.

Whats the serial number? Does it have a stage 1 or stage 2 torque tube? Are the casting numbers mostly Y or Z? If it runs that well maybe just use it instead of restoring it, alot of enjoyment can still be had with one thats not all "dressed" up. Hope this helps some Pat in Wisc

All Stage IIs had the clevis front bolster, like a 300, and the hydraulic reservoir is supposed to be up front. The belt pulley goes in the back.

I've got one of the first Stage IIs, a '53, and it's exactly like yours.

A question I have is, when did the Stage IIs get the two large holes in the grille? I've seen Stage II Super Hs both ways.

Does yours have the large holes?

I have a SMTA without the large holes. But I know the previous owner changed the grill to an M grill. He painted it up like a show tractor oblivious to the wrong grill.

So maybe someone has good information as to whether the early Stage II's are different or just had their grills changed.

I got a 1954 butI was confused about what should be there versus what is there. The front end is an old style with the clamp on wheels. The grill is also an old style and doesn't have the big holes. They stuck the battery under the gasoline tank and the hydraulic reservoir in front threw me. I was just trying to decide whether to restore it versus simply selling it. It runs and drives well so much so that I am thinking about restoring it. I will of course have to check on the availability of parts before I decide though. Thanks for the help.

Parts are not a problem, but the battery and reservoir both under the gas tank is not factory. Without looking at mine, I don't think you can get a battery under there without removing the belt pulley housing--you have the H/Stage 1 Super H seat? And does it have a serial number higher than 19233? Serial prefix is SH? IMO,it's a hybrid of some sort.
