Mine was leaking from the big threaded plug on the front of the steering box upper 1/2. Service manual says to put some kind of sealant on the threads. But it can not harden too much or the plug will be in there for good. I don't know what I'm gona use yet.

Permetex number 2, it's a non hardening gasket sealant that works well on threaded fasteners, and they wil be removable. I live in a rainy area, andwater runs down the steering shaft an floats all the oil out the top of the box. Usually I just change the oil a couple times a year. tm

There is a seal on the output shaft and one on the steering shaft. Abushing on the output shaft and a gasket between the two halves. Then fill to the level plug with 90wt and your steering will be tight and steer easy.

The easy solution is to fill the gear box with grease. Modern grease will adequately lubricate the gears, stay soft, and will not leak out or turn to oil under heat.

This is a common solution to the problem regardless of whether you replace bearings and seals.

Had a leak in the steering and a one half turn of the steering wheel before the tires turned on my Super A I ... Was informed that they all leak and to use grease as a solution. They did not come out of the factory leaking oil and does grease sling up lubricant to the top bearing. Also the shaft is no longer available. Well the shaft is available and a new seal will prohibit leaks and oil will *sling* to the bearing. AlBie
