Twice in 5 months my 1256 has blown the outside gasket on the mcv - this is the gasket between the thin outside (cover) plate and the thicker body plate. The gasket seems to fail at the bolt next to the power steering port. It starts with a small drip and progresses into a big spray over about 5 hours of use. The last time I replaced the gasket, I installed it dry. This time I'm going to use perma-tex or something similar. Any suggestions about similiar problem/repairs is greatly appreciated.

my first thought is 0-ring failure, be sure it's the correct one and good quality. when the o-ring blows their's no way the gasket can hold steering pressure.

Start by making sure that everything is flat. Those plates can get warped from overtightening the bolts, then they'll never seal. Make sure that all traces of old gasket are removed, but don't scratch anything. I suspect you are having trouble because you are not following the torque sequence for tightening the bolts. Ask your Case-IH dealer for a copy of the service bulletin that shows the torque sequence/torque specs. Try these three things before you try any sealer on the gaskets. There are just too many places in that MCV that little pieces of sealer could get into.
