im thinking of buying a farmall cub as a projct tractor. Before i buy i need to know if a farmall cub is any good for plowing a limited amount of snow. Most likely i will end up filling the tires.
thanx

In my experience, once you get those front tires about 2"-3" off the ground, you can plow as much snow as a Cub will physically push [steer w/the brakes in that mode, y'know].

I used to have a '48 Cub with weel weights and no fluid but that little thing would push more snow than you would it could. Real good little tractor for whatever we tried to do with it.

Works for me. This is my '64 with a Cub 54A blade, chains, no fluid, wheel weights all around.

jab,

I would not trade my "49 Cub for anything right now. I"ve been using it to push snow for 2 years now. Wheels weights front and back and a good set of chains will work wonders. 250" to 300" of drive, most of it 2 cars wide. We are right up in God"s Country, Northern Ontario, lots of white stuff! Cold too, -45F all weekend, no snow when it"s that cold.

BTW, chains and at least one set of wheel weights are a must. Loading the tires on a Cub, IMHO, isn't worth the time. You really can't get all that much water in there. It'd take 18 gallons of water to equal one wheel weight. You'd be lucky to fit 5-6 gallons in the tiny tires on a Cub, in my estimation.

with 8.3x24 tires you can get 13 gallons in each tire with calcium and water mix thats about 131 pounds per tire so 262 pounds of extra wieght will be well worth it
