I have been going back through looking for Tanner to see if he got his tractor going. Does anyone know? Sure got to give him credit for sticking to it.

Yes I am still here. I tried it again, and I am consistently getting the tractor to try an start on its own (meaning I let go of the starter, and it keeps trying to turn over by itself) and then it just stops after 5-10 seconds. So I slightly turned the Dist. counter clockwise, but the same result occured. I am beyond frustrated because everybody on here has told me how to do this correctly, I have followed their directions and it just won't turn over. I know this thing can run, it did before, but I feel like I have just pissed my money away on a real good tractor that won't run. I guess I should still just restore and then tow it to the front yard so everyone can see it and then try to explain how a person can fully restore a tractor and yet never get it to run. I am laughing as I type this.

Thanks for the replies guys. I might have to take you up on that offer MagMan, because there seems to be a lot of little things that need adjusted. I started to take the Governor off tonight so that I can clean it up, and join it to the carb prior to installing both pieces, and see if that is possible. One thing on the carb, is that both of the slot things (things that look like quarters in the carb are very tight, I noticed this when I took it off tonight.

Another is, is that the tractor was the distilate model because the manifold has the temp. control lever on it, however: I can't adjust it. Would this have anything to do with the flow, backpressure, etc. Where would be a good place to make a post for some assistance on getting my tractor up in running from someone locally. the mechanics in this area are all thieves, so I won't take it somewhere. I was hoping to get someone locally to come over, and teach me something about this tractor so I don't feel so helpless.

It sounds like it is trying to run. Set the timing back to the mark and when it is just put-put-putting along pull the choke out half an inch and see it it helps. If it helps, the motor is starving for fuel. If it makes it worse, it is flooding. Try it with the throttle a little farther open or a closed.

It is also possible that it is just running on one cylinder. Try taking the plugs out and heating them up on the gas stove (or use a propane torch). Put them back in while they are still hot and try it again.

I have to agree with Mag Man sounds like your govenor is holding her shut. Been whippin the wrong dog, mabe. Sure sounds like you got the timing real close. usualy if your 180 out it will bak fire and fart but not try to run. I suggest you follow the note about checking the tang on the govenor. It is right there where the carb and that tube come together. if you can get enough clearence to see in there then have your wife actuate the throtle a fea times you should be able to see the saft rotate and drive the throtle plate open and closed. Possible trouble on the other end inside the gov. Check all the pins and the adjustment at the top. Under the angled cover opisite end of the throtle shaft tube. Is another adjustment. I suggest you get out your IT manual and start at square one as if you had rebuilt the gov and get your initial setting in line and I think your there. Herb

HI TANNER, If you did it to the specs in the IT manual and the put the coil wire or plug wire what ever one it is through the distributor cap hold down and turn the dist till it sparks. Tighten it down. Dont turn it while you are trying to start it it is in a position to run as long as its not 180 off. I would look elswhere. Like is your carb throttle hooked up right where the govener rod goes to it. If its binding it could be at to low of an idle to take off. You need to look elswhere. At different things.Amount of fuel.Spark,Govener control,If you live close to one of us guys we would be glad to come over and help. As long as its not 30 below in your garage. LOL JON

Well I am in Northern Virginia. So if anybody with a full knowledge of these H's is willing to come over and help, I will supply the beer and food, but only if you get it running. J/K I will try the Coil wire sparking once more, and then check the Govenor, because I had a heck of a time getting the carb back on after I rebuilt it, because the connection between the carb and the govenor is really tight. And no, it isn't and won't be 34 below, maybe in the mid 20's. All my neighbors want me to get the thing running because they want me to plow their driveways when it snows this year.

There you go maybe some one will step in thats close to you. I live in NY you fly me down for a vacation I will be there.LOL Its hard to get the V notch sometimes right with the tang on the carb. Usally they will hang wide open when thats not in line. But if its tight it may be holding it in the closed position. I would take out the two screws pull it back and look with a light and see if its in the groove . If you cant see loosen the carb mounting nuts and you may be able to get a little more clearance to see it. I have done 50 of the probly and I sometimes get them off.If thats good you may want to pull the govener plate and look at the spring and make sure it hooked ok and not broke or streched. Just a few things I think of.Your getting lots of gas I hope? The best way to check that timing would be to pull #1 and ground it to the head or something and turn it over and see if its sparking when the pin is in line with the crank pulley notch If you have 5 hands you can have a finger in the hole making sure your on compression stroke also.Say maybe your wife turns it over with the crank. And you put the finger in and hold the plug with the other. Have her do it slow enough to have her stop as soon as you see the spark. That will be after you feel the compression of coarse. And see if your close to the notch. Just a few things. JON
