I have been restoring a 1952 Super A for over 2 years now and just got it running. It started and ran very well with a carb repair kit for a short time, now it leaks soooo much fuel through the hole in the bottom of the air intake side that I think it is in a constant state of flooding and now it won't start at all. Why would it drip so fast from this orifice? I have adjusted the float and needle valve and even reinstalled the old one (seat and valve) to no avail. Can any of you guys help me?

The "oriface" is a drain for excess fuel when the carburetor "runs over".

Try rapping the carburetor a few times in the area of the fuel inlet with a plastic screwdriver handle. Sometimes this will jar a piece of crud out of the needle and seat, and allow it to shut off the flow of fuel.

If that doesn't stop it from "overflowing", you'll need to take the carburetor apart and check the needle and seat and float.

I'd suggest that you go back over the needle/seat & float again. The gas has to come through there first, and that is where it has to be controlled.

Did you check the float for holes? Are you sure the float floats?

This is probably not it, but I thought I would mention that in a rebuilt carb I found that the pin that holds the float was slightly too short and would let the float drop down into the bowl. I made a new pin from a nail, and thw carb works fine.

Thanks Bob, Red Dave and little john for your suggestions. I have had the carb off no less than a dozen times. As for dirt in needle/seat, could be, because I had it running best after high rpm's and it did not drip that time after shutting down. After subsequent taking apart several times and cleaning that area, though, it now keeps dripping (overflowing). Float is in bracket each time I brake carb in half, so pin is OK length and there is no gas in float when removed, but I WILL examine it more carefully for a hole. That would really make it overflow alright. Thanks guys, its back to the carb.
