I'm trying to help my friend determine the year
of his H. The metal tags are gone. How else can we find out? There are some numbers on the
transmission ending with DE. Can these numbers help at all?

Thanks

The motor block if origanel should have the serial# stamped in it on the RH side looking from sitting position. Its above the dist or mag there is a flatened metal smooth spot with the serial # stamped in it the only way to get rid of this one would be a grinder. JON

The major parts have a casting number on them. They will be something similar to 12*27*R. Where the R stands for 1948. You can then work forwards or backwards through the alphabet to get your year. U & W were both used in '51. V was not used so '52 is an X. I would check several major castings such as the rearend, the transmission, and the block. If somebody has replaced any of these then that would throw off the date.
