This is the first time I have changed the oil in the 806 diesel I recently bought. Would someone recommend what type of oil I should use on this machine.

I am not using it for any heavy plowing and it normally gets down to 15-25 degree mornings and only gets up around 45-60 for the next 3 months or so. Wish I knew what the prior owner used but I don't.

Sure would like a little input on this please, thanks in advance.

IMHO, 15W-40 is a bit too heavy from your climate conditions. Something that is a bit lighter at the bottom end will give you better lubrication during warmup on those colder mornings. I would recomment a high quality 10W-30 oil. Go for something with a CF or CH rating.

I will say that you tractor could be a candidate for switching to synthetic oil. If your tractor uses very little oil, I'd even go so far as to recommend a high quality 5W-30 synthetic oil. Again, stick with something rated for diesel service. Before someone screams at me for saying this oil is too thin... Our fleet of new Volvo diesel heavy trucks come with a recommendation to use 5W-30 oil. Winter or summer.

Now to those of you who dissed me a few days back for not recomending synthetic oil for that M - this is a completely different tractor. I tend to look at the application and age of the engine, as well as the benefits and cpsts of going synthetic.

i have an 806 also. it will take 13 qts. of oil. i use delvac(I think that is the correct spelling)15w40,rotella is also a good oil. the main thing is look at the API rating of CF. do not use oil that has only a SJ rating. C rated oils are for compression ignition/commercial engines. S rated oils are for spark ignition/standard engines.

hope this helps,

rif
