A question for those in the know. I will be going through the engine on my M later this winter and my question is will the sleeves for a SM fit in a regular M engine block? ie: Is the outside diameter and length the same for each or did the SM use a bigger block bore to achive the bigger 4" piston bore? As long as I'm in there I would like to go all the way to the 4 1/8 overbore of the SM. But if the sleeves won't fit I will stay with the 4" overbore kit

The block on my 39 M is bored 4 1/8". If you push out the sleeves that should be what you have. I"m thinking seriously about putting 4 1/8" pistons in without any sleeve at all. Don"t see any reason why this won"t work. I"ll let you know what happens.

Super M sleeves will not fit the M block unless you first have the cylinders bored out at a machine shop.

Bore the M block out to 4 in. and put in thin sleeves out of SM rebuild kit, that will make 4 1/8 and won't cost as much.

How are you going to put 4 1/8 sleeves in a block that has a 4 inch bore?

A SM has a 4 in. bore with standard sleeves you can get a thin sleeve kit and make it 4 1/8 bore. That would make a 264 cu SM into a 281 cu motor just like a 450 motor.
