There is only one basic carb for the H, but it comes in two versions, one for distillate or kerosene, and one for gasoline. Internally the only difference is the jets, they differ slightly. Externally the dist/kero has a drain cock. However, the same repair kit fits both. Available from Case-IH and many suppliers.

Hello CYNKS
I had distillate carb on an "H" which I replaced with a gas carb. They are shaped differently and there is a different part # in the parts book. You think the kit will work for both? Thanks for your thoughts.

The IH parts book only lists one repair kit. I have never compared the carbs side by side. The parts book indicates that the dist/kero and gas bowls will interchange, I'm not sure of the top part (throttle body). The book also indicates that the metering nozzles are different. The listed kit does not include the jets or metering nozzle. I believe that the other parts, gaskets, float needle and seat are the same. Also, I doubt if the current kit is the same as the one listed in the book, it likely has fewer parts, I'm not sure. My VB catalog also lists the same kit for both carbs.

Is there a small round brass plate riveted onto the carb? I had a distillate carb with the part number on that.

Little john Thanks for the info I found the tag 50981DA. I'm pretty sure it's a gas carb. Looks like there's plenty of places to get a kit on the web. Any recomendation's ?

Dale, in my state of basic ignorance I see that in the parts book, the 50982DC is the gas carb, but I don't see the DA except as a suffix to other parts such as the "throttle valve plate". I am sorry that I don't know what's going on. I'm sure others can help.

Regarding sources, I am not qualified to help. The rebuilt carb that I have resulted from a trade and I don't know who supplied the kit.

Only other thought I have is that in the rebuilt carb I found the pin that holds the float was just a tad short, and it would let the float drop down inside the bowl. I made a new pin from a nail and it worked fine. Just something to check before you install the rebuilt carb. Good luck.
