Now that I am thick into my restoration, I cleaned up and took apart the Dist. I split the main housing in half and some liquid came out. I believe there should only be grease in it. Also shouldn't the large gear on the Dist. be turning freely? It does not move right now, and since I seperated the main housing I will also need a new gasket or use gasket maker because it is leaking the remaining fluid. I think water just got into the Dist. some how, and maybe that is why the gear is stuck. Any ideas guys?

Are you talking about the distributor housing or the coupling that it fits into? A lot of them have tightened up due to sitting for years and need to be taken apart cleaned and freed up, at least that is my experience Geoff
