I have an IH 350 Row Crop. I was using it and the loader and power steering simply quit, the loader was about two feet off the ground when I tried to raise it. The engine runs normal and I was able to lower the loader to the ground (gravity). I suspect the pump, not sure. How involved of a job is this to fix? What kind of expense? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Hey thanks for the input, yes I did check the fluid and it has only a draw bar. I"m going with the sheared key idea. What kind of job is it to rebulid such a pump. The manual I have isn"t the best?

FS,

If you had a sheared key on the drive gear, how could your distributor still be turning?

I think if the trouble is in the pump, it must be a wobbled out aluminum body against that steel gear?? But this should have showed up as the hydraulics getting progressively weaker, I would think.

Would you let us know what you find?

Thanks,

Allan

I'm betting it's a plugged filter. My 300 did that to me one time. Worked fine and then out of the blue quit on me. No sign of trouble. Drained the system, cleaned the filter, and refilled and I was back in business.

Just a follow up. Last fall I lost the hydraulics to my IH 350. Many of you offered great suggestions. It seemed it was the filter that was plugged to the hydraulic pump. It looked ok but I cleaned it anyway. I also took the pump off to inspect it. I was glad I did the gear on the drive side was loose as was the dist. side. So some loc-tite and back together.

Don

Cleaning the filter seems the easiest and least expensive place to start. I will post a follow up with what I find. Hope to look at it this week or possibly the weekend. Keep the good ideas coming. One question though. If the tractor runs is it possible the drive gear still turns the dist. and the driven gear is the one that sheared the key? Or doesn't it work that way?

Don,

You bet. Out of the blue and the distributor is still turning....gotta be something simple, to my mind.

Guess you checked the hyd fluid? Take out the screen under the square plate with 4 bolts holding it in the bottom of the reservoir, either clean it, or if it is crushed, replace it, it is still available from Case-IH. Does it have fast hitch? Could of also sheared a key in the hyd. pump drive gear. Just a couple of thoughts.

FFS,

Sure seems like it is something upstream, that's for sure if it is effecting all your hydraulic equipment.

Has this pump been giving any signs of weakness up until now? Seems odd that it would just work fine one minute and not the next, especially if the tractor is still running okay.

Wish I were more familiar with those 50 series tractors and hope some of the big guys jump in here and help you.

Maybe there is a flow control valve or something that is stuck open. I've gotta watch this thread and learn! :>)
