i don't want to rush you. i did post back where the tractor originated from. back in '76 the dealer ship was named valley international, milbank SD. turns out through some more research they sold the tractor in spring of '77 with 10 hours on it. they couldn't recall where it exactly came from though. should be in the general area though. i really hope you can find something or at least steer me in the right direction. if you need anything else let me know. my e-mail is unlocked.

thanks,
casey

And the real answer is....
The serial list as has been published by several sources. A lot of the IH serial lists that I looked at today don't list a last number for the 766, but the one I'm looking at right now says the serial range is 7101-18319 so yours does fill in that range. It's an internal printout the IH Archives got almost 10 years ago from Case (they still use this IH database) for the engineering bill of materials lists. It lists a serial range, date in and out, and the BOM list.

Whoops. I meant to say that the serial list for 766 published by many sources wasn't completely accurate. Need to eat lunch.

IH Archives has the list, Series M96-253, Folder 34, if I remember right.

Not poor communication between IH and the authors, since IH stopped owning the AED before most of the books started getting written. More of a case of looking at the wrong stuff. I'm not sure where the wrong numbers came from- could be a variety of things that happened.

You're going to have to hold your horses, this might take awhile. First question- is there anything unusual about the serial tag? I was hoping you'd have been closer to the Mexican border- that would have been one possibility.

sorry, i didn't mean to rush. nothing unusual about the tag. it looks just like the one on my '63 706 gas, just mounted in a diferent spot. 706 is on the left bellhousing and the 766 is on the right side of the trans.
