I got a new volt meter today and hooked it up and I ran a new wire from the L side of the regulator to the switch . the old hook up went from the switch to the right side volt meter .Hooked up that way the volt meter shows discharge and if hooked from L side of regulator it shouldn"t There is another coil conection at the bottom of the switch that I dont no where it hooks to.when I restored and rewired the tractor the wires were all striped bare and conections were rotted off so I dont know were it hooks to. well sence my hook up I have found the coil at the top smokes if you only put the switch for just headlights but dosen"t if all lights are on . is that missing conection a ground or that . that do you think ?
have no digriam to go by when I wired the tractor I used a digriam to a farmall c manaul. the H manaul I have dosen"t show anything. does anyone out there know ? Thanks Jeff

Dont you mean AMMETER instead of VOLTMETER as the two are not the same.
