I have a model m. put on a three point hitch but the pump for the hydraulics mounts to the power take off. What do I need to do so I can hook up a bush hog for mowing?

I ordered a 5 foot Howse mower with the 1point hitch for less than $600 last year from our local IH/ Case dealer.

I used the Howse to clear scrub pine and cedar, and to cut grass/weeds up to 3 feet high. One thing no one has mentioned is that you need to get an overrunning clutch to go between the PTO and mower.

I use a 4 ft bush hog type mower behind my 140 and it works great. I cut a small field and drive with it and have cleaned up some over grown area too. Mine is 1 pt and the pto shaft is at a bit of an angle but have had no problem in the years I"ve been using it. AgriSupply (www.agri-supply.com) carries a 4 ft with 1 pt hitch, part #10353 for 699.95 They have stores here in VA, NC, SC & GA.

Thanks Scotty!

So when you mean offset, you mean when I am sitting on the tractor it is to the left some? I have a 1pt fast hitch on my 140. Does the PTO go straight? or is it running off set too?

Colin, Im sorry I didnt realize that you had a 1 pt fast hitch, thought you just had a drawbar. With the drawbar arangement you would have the mower centered behind the PTO giving you mower offset to your left which could help cutting around trees. With the fast hitch,I think you would want the mower centered with the hitch and the PTO would drive shaft would be at a slight angle. You would also need to fabricate the 1pt male hitch on the mower with some brackets to take advantage of your 1pt. Some of the guys on here have made some of there own fast hitch implements, like Hugh MacKay who could probablly help you out more than myself. Also a lot of guys use the Woods belly mower under that tractor for finish mowing and I have heard it works quite well. Hope this helps.

Scotty,

Again, thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I plan to use this tractor(since we invested in in it) for as much as we can! Since we have a small farm I was hoping to use it for mowing/bush hoging too! So you think that having a center fast hitch arrangment and having the PTO at a small angle should not be that much of a problem? I did some research one time into PTO driven generators and they mention the slight concern of PTOs not being exactly aligned with its mate. You wouldn't have more info on the Woods belly mower?

Again, thanks!

Colin
