Theres always got to be one *&*^$. And its not the one that I thought wouldnt come out. Here is what I have done. I have removed the crank and have #1 Split 3 pieces of wood pounding on the top of the piston. #2 Put about 1/4" PB Blaster on top of piston and lite it up it burnt slowly and still wont budge. #3 took cutting torches and heated up block outside of that bore still wont budg. It looks like I have a very nice set of M&W pistons and I would hate to ruin it.Any one have any other Ideas? JON

Magman, If it's an aluminum piston, cover it with crushed ice. Add some salt. If you have the sleeve out, turn it upside down and fill the inside of the piston with ice. Put it in a press if you have one and apply some pressure. This method always worked for me, even if they stood in water for years. This was always my last resort before the hammer or torch. I never had to break or cut one out. I hope this helps. Steve Norwood, Texarkana, Texas.

I've had the same problem. I did damage the piston but was able to get just one replacement piston from a good salvage yard. The sleeve cleaned up well and with a new set of rings the tractor went back together. I turned the engine upside down on wood blocks and pounded the piston and sleeve out with a big hammer and a length of pipe. Once the sleeve and piston were out I heated the outside of the sleeve and the piston then came out of the sleeve without damage. Good luck with it. Bob

I heard a new one this weekend but have not had a chance to try it. One guy told me he makes a plate out of ¾” thick material and taps a hole in it to put on a fitting to connect his port-a-power. Then he bolts this piece to the top of the block over the piston that is stuck. He connects his port-a-power and starts to carefully pump fluid into the cylinder. He said this has never failed him yet.

Good luck and please post back your results if you try this.

This will damage the piston, but pound up from the bottom. Both the piston and the sleeve will probably come out as one piece. That is what I did on Old Rusty H a couple of years ago with the crankshaft still in place. Soak the top lip of the sleeve in PB Blaster or equivalent. That PB actually worked it's way between the sleeve and the cylinder wall after several days of keeping it soaked.

I assume they are aluminum? You might be out of luck but I always use an iron driver. Wood just won't cut it! Aluminum gets stuck a lot worse than iron and you might have to get them out in pieces.

I had one heck off a time. I had to place the block in the sop press and press the pistons out. I had M&W pistons also and well we have 2 good ones left now maybe one. The part that wrecked them was taking the wrist pins out. they were tight as could be. aluminum and steel parts don't mix well. let me know if you need an extra sleeve or m&w piston I think the number on them was ap-70
