Sleeve, Cylinder Head Stud

I am restoring a 1942 Farmall H. After putting the head back on I found that I still have a piece of 3/8" tubing approx. 4" long with threading on the outside of 1 end. The parts manual identifies it as a sleeve for a cylinder head stud, but it is too small to go over any studs; also, there is no hole on top of the head for it to slip into. I"ve spoken with some local repairmen, but they don"t seem to know where it goes. Can anyone help solve this mystery?

There are three sleeves that go in the 3 holes that are kind of in the middle of the head. Could it be one of those ? They would be more the size of 3/8" pipe.

There are 3 tubes associated with the H head that I know of. There is a tube on both ends of the rocker assembly in the head that squirt oil on the rocker assembly and a tube in the center of the rocker assembly that goes down into the head.

This sounds like an oil return tube that outlets into the oil pan, but it threads into the bottom of the block--a long way from the head.

I just went out and looked at my engine. Bill is right about the oil drain pipe. I screws in the bottom front of the block and sticks down below the oil pan web a little. Its 1/4 inch pipe nipple, but would measure 3/8" OD. ken
