I have my '43 Farmall H back together and sure looking good. BUT... the hyraulic pump (apparently) is leaking badly. It does work but I'm sure it will take several quarts of oil per day!!! Oil comes out underneath near the drain plug.

Any ideas????

Also, the bayonet is missing on the filler cap. So I use a dip stick.

Thanks

I agree with Wayne. If it is the resevoir, they aren't too expensive. Even if it's inside, rebuilding one of those pumps is surprisingly inexpensive. The balls, springs and gaskets come to around $30. The seals may make it a little more. If you're going to drop it to fix the leak, I'd take the little extra time to rebuild it while you have it down. There are various methods listed in the archives for lowering it (it weighs about 150 lbs so be careful) but I've found (if you can get your hands on one) a rolling bydraulic jack works just fine.

The seal on the drive shaft input may be leaking or the pipe connections inside or the gasket or ..... ?
Take the tin plate off behind the pump to view the pump drive shaft and use a light to inspect for the source of the leak.
Remove the pump driveshaft & you can operate the tractor without the pump operating until the leak can be fixed.

I suspect your reservoir is broken. You should be able to find a used one. Ken
