I have a 1943 "War Model" Farmall M I recently bought that I will be taking the live hydraulics and power steering off and restoring. I have some questions. When did they switch from the early style PTO to the later style? When did they switch from the high/low charge to a constant voltage on the regulator? When did they switch form the large oil filter to the samller one? Did they all have a distaillate manifold early on? I have 1-30-1940 book that shows them with 36 inch rubber. Is this true and if so how late did they go with the 36 inch? Thanks for now more questions later.

Larry, A lot of these tractors have accepted donor parts and it is often confusing as to authentiscity. I have only ever seen one M with 36 inch rubber and that was a 1940. I don't think there ever was a fluctuating voltage. The only variation there came from the lite switch variac. I have seen the big filter on 1944 tractors so go figure. The small PTO was switched in late 1940 to the best of my knowledge. What are you going to do with the live pump and power steering? I would be interested in buying them off of you, if you want to sell them.

The M&W hydraulic pump - One just sold on Ebay for 280 and it needed seals. This one does not leak ans it comes with all the hoses, dual action valve, and a dump valve for running single action. Asking price would be 500 dollars. It has a behlen power steering motor with all the correct mounting hardware and I saw one of those sell recently for 500 dollars. Currently there is a flow divider valve that opertaes off the M&W hydraulic pump for the power steering. All in one unit I am asking 900 but would take 850 cash.

Some of the early Ms did use 36" rubber, I think it was an option. Check your serial number, if it has an X1 suffix, it came from the factory equipped to burn gasoline and would have the gasoline manifold. If it does not have the suffix, then it should have the distillate manifold, but you also want to check and see what cylinder head is on the tractor. Some of the distillate burners were switched over to the high compression gas head after distillate was no longer available.
