We use the white Uni-Paint Fine Line PX-21 made by Sanford for marking some helicopter parts and instruments. They also come as PX-20 medium line. Both styles are available in a varity of colors. Check with Ace hardware or art supply store if Office Depot doesn´t carry them.

Nebraska;

Over the years I beleive we(I work at a Salvage yard, I.H./Farmall tractors only) have tried every kind of marker and found each to be left wanting, either by plugged tips, too large of bead(for small parts),drying out Etc.. Somehow we found a wonderful paint marker probably by accident. It is white only but has a very fine mark which is excellent for marking small parts yet visible enough to be easily seen on large parts. It is fast drying and small to carry(like a magic marker)and you shake the internal ball bearing to mix the paint. The applicator tip is metal so stands up to rough surfaces better than plastic or felt.You can easily carry it in your pocket. And what is this marker originally used for you might ask? Why it is a white out correction pen made to fix typing errors. Yep, I'm not lying! The type we have been using are the PRESTO! correctional pens made by PENTEL. They cost about $2-2.60 but I have not seen them in all stores. Usually Staples or some other office supply store should stock them. Try it out!

That sounds just like the one that I use, it was given to me so I never paid attention to the maker or where it was purchased. It works very well for writing in the date directly on fuel filters, oil filters and such.

Nebraska:

I forgot to say that after using any style of marking pen the tip needs to be diligently cleaned to prolong the life of the marker. Just like cleaning the paint gun after every use, just wipe the tip free of debris and paint.

Paint pens in various forms have been around for years. They are a felt tipped device that I use quite frequently, especially if I want a mark that is more permanent than marker pens, or is more visible on dark iron. Kinda sensitive on rough surfaces. Also work great for highlighting raised casting lettering. Automotive paint sometimes comes in this form. Have purchased old stock color pens at flea markets for 50 cents each and work fine. Dry time on all is only a minute or so in good drying weather.

Try "Brakleen" by CRC & others in spray cans. Chlorinated solvent, works good, but be careful on plastics.
I get it at NAPA, Walmart and other places.

Sorry, I misread your post, I thought you were looking for something to remove the markings.

Never mind.

I got a marking pen at the local NAPA parts store. Works good and seems to hold up ok.
