I have broken the spline off the PTO unit and was wondering how difficult it is to change the shaft. The tractor is an 806 gas, manunal trans.

I've done dozens of these PTO repairs. It helps alot to have the special tool. You'll probably find the clutch discs/seperators should get replaced too as long as your doing the job.

Matt,

If you nose the tractor down into a ditch or some such thing, you won't have to drain the fluid.

Just don't drop any pieces in that rear end. :>)

Matt you will have to drain the rear end and remove the PTO there are a number of 1/2" cap screws around the out side of the PTO hausing you will need to take out. The gasket may hold tight but as you pull the pto back you will have to drop the back down and lift the front so the suction tube can clear the hole. Then take the pto apart would be nice to have manual.

call the junkyards, we broke the shaft off our 2+2 stole the pto off the 1566 then the clutches went out, found out the housing was bad, went to tms over by wooster ohio and they swapped us the whole unit.
