My original manual for my 1941 A states that a wedge block in the front axle U-Bolt and a square block under the radiator grille must be placed in position before jacking up the rear wheels. Anyone understand the reason for this?
Thanks in advance.

This is because if you jack both rear wheels off the ground, jacking at the rear center of the tractor, the tractor can flop right over on the front bolster pivot. If you just jack one side off the ground no need to block. If you jack one side and block it then the other side, no need to block the front boolster.

This is because the A is unstable on the rear end due to the offset construction of the tractor. Have more weight on one side than the other. Stabalizing the front end is safe to do! BE CAREFUL and use common sense when doing this.
