Just bought a Cub, have a BN and an H. How do you remove the hood of the Cub? Does the front piece come off separately from the gas tank? Mine looks like a single piece (but if might just be painted together.) Appreciate any help available.

Hood and gas tank are a single unit.

Remove the radiator cap. Turn the fuel off at the sediment bowl, and disconnect the fuel line. Remove the grille. Remove the two screws in the top of the triangular pieces just behind the grille. Disconnect the wires from the headlights, and feed them back through the grommets in the hood. Remove the row of screws that attach the hood/tank unit to the bracket containing the ammeter, light switch, and the ignition switch. Check for clips underneath the hood that retain the wire harness, and remove the harness from the clips.

Unless I've forgotten something, you should be ready to remove the hood/tank assembly. It helps to have an assistant, because it can get a little awkward, moreso depending on the amount of fuel in the tank.

Buzzman,
Thanks a lot for the details. Sure is a bit trickier than the BN or the H!

The hood and gas tank on a cub are all one piece. There is a seam between the gas tank and the hood that looks like it should seperate, but it doesn't. Sometimes you'll see the metal bent where someone tried with a screwdriver to seperate them. They are riveted together. Drain the tank before removing and the unit will be easier to handle because of less weight.
