Gentlemen, there is a decent looking International 606 for sale near my house and I'm wondering if it is a good buy. The price is $3900 with a 7' heavy duty box blade. It needs a rear tire and a front tire, but everything else looks pretty good on it. THe hourmeter reads about 3,000 hours but I don't know if that's accurate. It is a gas tractor. Is this a good price and is this a good tractor? The owner says it is 46 horsepower. Thanks, Doug.

Harold,
I paid $2200 a few years ago for a diesel 606. It was a bit beat up (it's the yellow one one in this sites photo's page), the generator didn't work and I had the starter rebuilt this year, but otherwise it works well. It's all about local prices and if someone around you can work on it. Check out antiquetractorsonline.com or do a google search for your area. I doubt the hobbs meter is correct, it would mean it only ran on average 77 hours per year. I like mine, but since it was only made for 5 years, some parts can be difficult to find (mostly tin and the 3point hitch). Good luck.

Harold, is this a good tractor to buy, and do you know if the price is in the ballpark? I prefer gas tractors so that isn't a problem for me. Thanks, Doug.

Doug,

The International 606 is basicly the same as the International 460 updated with a modern three point hitch. If you don't need a row crop tractor, the 606 is a good tractor. In our area we used Farmall (row crop) type tractors and I don't think we ever sold a 606. The Farmall 460 was a very good tractor for its hp size is what I base my good tractor statement on. The 221 gas engine is an excellent engine. You have to decide on the price.
