It could be many things -- As to the oil burning, if it is bad enough one or more plugs will foul quickly. Pull the plugs and clean them if oil fouled. If the problem disappears, then recurs, you will know what causes it. As a temporary fix, use a hotter plug, or one designed to fire in oil, if such plugs still exist. My dad had an H with the same problem. Different plugs "fixed" the problem. It was overhauled soon after.

I have a '51 M I bought on eBay. The price was good because of the Saginaw 3 pt, live hydraulics, and the wide front. When I picked it up, I was disappointed that it was missing on one cylinder. It was obvious from all the new parts thrown at it that the P.O. had tried hard to get it running right before deciding to sell it. I figured it must have a pitted valve seat, but when I got it home I ran a compression check to see which cylinder was bad. They were all good! Further examination found a bent and displaced push rod... one exhaust valve wasn't opening at all. Straightened the push rod and it runs like a new one.

Would you detail the 'etc' - does that mean new points, condenser, cap and rotor? Is it battery ignition or magneto? The missing that happened after the replacements start after running for how long? After warming up or working for a few days? How long after you got it or how much did you use it before the first missing started? One thought in answer to the burning oil is that the plugs might be fouling. How do they look now? Oily-black, dry fluffy black or another color? Do you know you have good fuel flow?
