Is it an international or a farmall? They were both made by IH but the farmall was a rowcrop version and the international was a utility version. If it is an international it will have a wide front and be fairly short. If it is a farmall it can have a wide or narrow front and will be about 6 feet to the top of the hood.

450 was built from 1956-58. There seems to be a conflict as G is a code for 1961. If the SN is 9xxx, you may have a 460 utility. But this is a low profile tractor with a wide front end. Does it have 4 cylinders or 6? Are you sure the casting codes (look at more than one) read month*day*G?

Look for casting dates. There should be a minimum of six on your tractor.

They should be similar to the following:

*12-3-A* = 3 December 1955
*6-30-B* = 30 June 1956
*10-2-C* = 2 October 1957
*3-14-D* = 14 March 1958

A Farmall 450 is a pretty good sized tractor. It'll be almost 6' to the top of the hood. I guess the first thing I'd do is clean the crud off the engine behind the oil filter, just above the inspection plate. Look for a number in the cast that starts with C-xxx. On the 450, It'll read C-281 (I just went and double checked mine). That doesn't preclude the fact that someone might have swapped out the engine (If in fact any other engine would fit in a 450, or a 450 engine would fit in anything else - I don't know) I do know my 350 has a 300 engine, so it's possible that a 400 engine would fit in a 450. It's a place to start anyway.

Tom,
Welcome aboard ! You might start by going to the tractor photos link at the left and matching your tractor to one of them to give you an idea what you have.
After you have narrowed down to what you have, someone here can give you a little help.

Gary
