Just got my '48 H running after it had sat for about 20 years. The engine runs just fine.... but I haven't driven it too far yet since I noticed a slight "thunk" noise (not from the engine) when it is moving, both forward and reverse. The belt pulley control arm appears seized (haven't removed it yet) and I wondered if perhaps it is semi-engaged?? Also, I have about an eighth inch of play when I pull on the drive shaft.. any chance that worn or loose rubbers on the coupler would make a noise?? I am hoping that it isn't a missing tooth on a gear! Mechanical noises are difficult to put into words... would anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello Chris. If you are in NB, you should check out Mr. Clark in Douglas/Keswick 105 area. He can answer most of your questions, or sell you another tractor! He likes late 40's H's alot.

Hello Kent,

Thanks for the reply. I certainly am familiar with that gentleman... mentioned the noise to him and he did suggest looking at the pulley. I've had a great time looking at his collection. That Super H starts with hardly a tap on the starter switch. Would make a great project tractor to restore but the same could also be said for his other ones. Anyway, the "noise" is my next project on the tractor, but with warmer weather here now, there are many house and yard jobs that tend to drag you away from what you really enjoy! That's life! Now, how many more years 'til freedom 55?? What model of Farmall do you have?

Kent,

Isn't it strange where you meet your "neighbours"! We live just off the Carlisle Road in Douglas. I'm up your way some... have seen an H in a yard in your vicinity; maybe yours? Send an e-mail,I think you can get it from this post.

You found me. Across from the KRACL, so you better stop in and say hello. I deliver hay and silage to your neighbor at the lower end of the road. I think my wife has a relative up there that has a nifty looking JD in the shed next to the road. Many reasons to visit the high country in NB.

Don't know if you're still following this now... buried deep on page 7! You're location wasn't where I was thinking... actually was thinking of a place on the Tripp Sett. Road (now that's not really the "Ridge"!). Someone there also has an H. But now I have an idea, I know where KRACL is! My e-mail is cfeero@rogers.com Sounds like you do some serious farming. All the best!
