Whew! T/A Lesson #1 is Over

Pardon me while I vent 'cause I've been holding my breath and sweating bullets for three days now.

I just bought an old 1980 686 Diesel with the T/A out; I bought it sight unseen (other than some pictures), as the owner said it was "Stuck in high range" and the price was right.

The semi with the tractor arrived late last night and I had the local "Red Shop" just pick up the 686 at the truck terminal this morning.

Come to find out, the tractor was actually stuck in low range because the engine rear main seal was leaking and ruined the main clutch (don't know which went first, the seal or the center of the clutch hub).

Anyway, otherwise, the T/A and engine are in "great shape" to quote the shop owner. The shop is splitting it now to put in a new seal and both clutches.

Whew! Lesson # 1 in T/A's and blind buying are over. I lucked out (this time).

BTW, those 310's do sound different, don't they?

Allan

310's sound great. Throw on a straightpipe, then it will sound like nothing else you've ever heard before.
