We just about are third Farmall tractor and have decided to actually rebuild this one. It is a 49 H. We are stripping it down and getting all the grease of it and getting ready to sand it down for Paint. What is the best paint to use? Do I need a high temp paint for the engine or will regular paint work? Also were can I find the seat and shock bushings or the shock itself. And inside the exhaust manifold there looks like some sort of valve or damper (what is this). Any help will be appreciated.

Farmall Fan, If you plan to paint the tractor yourself, I would suggest you use Case NH paint from your nearest Case NH dealer. The number is 2150 red rouge. It is also recommended that you use a compatable primer and thinner. YOu can get all the paint items at Case NH. The seat can be purchased from numerous sources, as can the seat shocks and rubber parts. O.E.M. Tractor parts has a full line of replacement parts which are as close to original parts as you will get. They will send you one of their catalogs on request. It is best to get a parts manual which will make ordering parts much easier. What you think is a damper in your manifold is just that. Your tractor was probably a distilate or Kerosene, meaning that it used gasoline to start, and then would be switched over to the alternate fuel when warmed up. YOu may have a small one gallon gas tank mounted under the hood on the ignition side of the tractor. Many of these dual fuel tractors, however, have been converted to gasoline only and some of the dual fuel equipment such as the small gas tank may have been stripped. There are also many used parts sources, you can find many of those by going to Google.com and typing in used farmall parts.

Take the old seat bushings to the local auto parts store. Matched mine up with shock bushings, can't tell the difference.Shock for seat can be purchased from most antique tractor suppliers. We use Case/IH paint, may try something else in future, but so far have been well satisfied. Last gallon was $35. Paint will last and shine better when used with hardner.

Any plain old alkyd enamel paint will take the heat of the engine except the exhaust. Now, there are better paints but alkyd enamel is cheapest.
It's kinda like regular if you're buying gas.

The valve in the manifold is for distillate. I think it was adjusted to help heat the air/gas mixture from the carburetor.

DuPont makes a implament paint that is a apoxy paint very pricey but very good paint and will take the heat. Use Valu- Bilt.com to find some of your missing parts,I used them for some of my parts on my H. Hope this helps. sorry for my spelling. :-)
