Could anyone tell me where the check plug is on the belly pump and the drain plug on the M Farmall. Also, do you run regular 30 wt motor oil in it and how much does it hold? I am tring to educate myself on this tractor and will probally have lots more questions in the future. Thanks. Everyone is a very big help on this website.

The dipstick that used to be attached to a washer at the filler pipe opening probably fell in to the resevoir (that's where I found mine when I rebuilt my pump). It probably won't hurt anything there. Until I rebuilt the pump, I used one fabricated out of allthread and a washer ground down to a size that would just fit under the cap. I determined the 'full' mark on the stick by draining the whole system, adding six quarts and marking the allthread where the oil came to. The allthread extends down from the top of the filler pipe 11 & 1/4". The top of the filler pipe extends about 1" above the top of the case. Hope this helps.

Just got back from the barn. My dipstick measures 11&1/4 inches from the top of the filler tube. The full mark is located 2" up from the bottom. This would mean that full is 9&1/4" down from the top of the filler tube. Suggest using a heavy guage wire (like #9) & bending a loop at the top & notching it at the full mark. You could then hang it on the tractor for fast checks. Hope this helps. Lynn

I saved this post from quite a while ago, hope it helps.I used a piece of wire and brazed it to a fender washer just big enough that it wouldn't fall down the pipe but I can still screw the cap on.Ed

On my H, there isn't a check plug (to check the level), every now and then you will find one with a dipstick inside the fill cap. i ended up making one but off-hand I don't know the measurement. If you don't get an answer, I will measure mine and post back; it holds 6 quarts of NON DETERGENT 30 weight. Regular (detergent) motor oil will foam. You could also use HyTran hydraulic fluid (a lot of folks who use the same implements with different tractors do) but 30 weight non detergent motor oil is what the manual specifies. I believe the M and H used the same (Lift-All) belly pump.

Whoever told you 80 weight is very misinformed, and that is a much more polite word than I wanted to use. The owners manual specifically states 30 weight, non-detergent. 20 weight for cold weather, and even 10 weight for extreme cold weather. Many, many people have found through experience that hy-tran oil works just fine in these old tractors.

The pumps are similar in operation but are constructed different due to clutch location on the M.

The belly pump does not have a check plug, there should be a dipstick in the filler hole. There is adrain plug on the bottomof the pump.

Drain plug is down at the bottom.

You check the level by pulling the dipstick out of the fill opening at the top. The dipstick has a flat washer at the top under the fill cap. You may not have one, lots are missing. If you start pumping air, add two quarts.

I think they hold six quarts.

Someone will answer your questions, but you need manuals -- Binder Books has them.
