I have what I think is a charlynn ps pump mounted with brackets off the fromt manifold stud and driven by belt off the crank pully this system works fine but when at idle steering is harder to turn.My main question is the resevior cover leaks under full throttle have tryed double gasket and pluging breather hole in cover but now Im thinking that with the hole plugged Im forcing fluid by the gasket. Thinking about replacing fluid with hy-trans but dont want to blow seals what type of fluid is used in these units. Paul.

A double gasket will always leak.

Plugging a breather hole will build up pressure or vacuum inside the reservoir and should not be done.

Try cleaning both surfaces well, check carefully for warpage, and don't tighten the bolts too much. Overtightened bolts warp covers causing them to leak.

Put on a new gasket.
