I have a B-414 tractor that the original generator is gone and the gauages also broken, I heard it can be converted fron the present Positive ground system to a Negative ground system and use an alternator, If this is true, I would like to know what type of alternator to use and a sourse for a wiring diagram for the conversion, I am also looking for some gauges, ie, oil pressure, water temp and charging, If possible also a tachometer

I've got a B 414 Diesel, someone in its' past has changed it from a pos to neg ground, which makes the wiring diagram real fun to read. The generator on the tractor makes a little bit of electricity, but I put a charger on it for about an hour a week and it works fine. One of these days I'll get the gen rebuilt or buy a cheap alternator. One thing nice about a Diesel is that once it gets started, it doesn't need electricity to operate.

You should look into putting a 1-wire alternator on it. I put one on an M and it worked great, One wire to the battery and that's it, unless the tractor has a solenoid start, then you need one fused control wire.

Starters don't care which direction the electricity travels. No difference for positive or negative ground.

I have a 414 as well, there is a good sight on yahoo groups. Its called internationalbseriestractors. Its a discussion board like this. Also there is a link on the Red Power sight called UK red. I still have the generator on mine. As far as guages go mine has been changed to a mehcanical water and oil pressure guage and I still have the original battery meter. Im sure you can convert from positive ground to negative, but not sure how or if it will affect your starter or not. Good luck...hope this helps

I could be wrong, but I thought B414's were negative ground.

OK, I will admit it. I was wrong. I looked in the IT manual at the B414 wiring diagram and found that the + terminal is connected to ground.

Hi, I agree with Ben, I believe the B414 that we bought new in 1962 was negative ground.
