It will bolt right on. This raises another question of my own. I believe the intake manifold for a distillate tractor is designed differently. This is in regard to the intake/exhaust manifold being cast as one, with the intention of using the exhaust side to preheat the intake side. The early M was designed for gasoline/distillate, but the SM was never designed to burn distillate. Can anyone clarify this issue for me? I do not burn distillate, and certainly think I could gain more HP if the intake mix did not get preheated.

My H is a distillate tractor, I burn gasoline in it though. The manifold had a flapper deal in it but it was froze up so someone has forced it open and the cut the handle off ,,, I do not have any trouble with power on mine, maybe it is because the flapper is open,We just had to fix the manifold this past year as it was cracked,,I came really close to taking the one off the W4 and putting it on the H, but decided against it as the W4 is in excellent shape and I didnt want to take parts off of a tractor I have up for sale,,,,, Jim

Jim;

Yes c-248(M)/c-264 & c-281(SM/400/450) are basically the same engine.
