There is is a 1942 A with a 60 inch belly mower up for sealed bids soon. This unit is owned by our school distrist, they bought it new. Tractor runs good has round black tires and has sat outside a lot. What would this be worth as a resoration piece, mower not much. Thanks Jerry

I work on and restore lots of tractors for other people. I have a 41 A that I mow with that I had to give 1350 for. After getting it home, I immediately had to rebuild the whole rear end. Then I added a very good Woods 59" mower for another $550. It has served me very well since then but isn't much to look at. That's still on my winter agenda... Maybe this summer it will emerge as the gem that only I've seen for the past few years.

With descent sheet metal, and if it doesn't smoke, then I could see a tractor like what you're talking about bringing $2000 or more. However, knowing that it was owned by a public entity, I would be cautious of the abuse and lack of care it could have undergone. It probably didn't get the same care as it would have from a private owner.

I've been at auctions where Farmall A's and B's with belly mowers have brought $3500 with old paint on them. Just depends on the day, I guess.

Good luck!

Jerry, I have a 1942 A that I would value at somewhere between $2000 and $2500, the tractor has been redone, I use it to push snow with a front blade and I also have the 16A rear mount sicklemower for it. I would want more for those two attachments. If your tractor runs and sheetmetal is not too bad I would say $1000 to $1500. Tough to price something without a picture.
