oil pressure slow coming up

Hello,

When I start up the 300 rowcrop the oil pressure is slow to come up. I am using 5w-30 oil (i just recently changed it). The temps here have been 10-20 degrees. Pressure is up to 75psi after 15-20 seconds and remains there as the coolant temp slowly rises over time. Could their be an air pocket in the oil filter canister or does this air get removed as the tractor is operating?

There may be a restrictor or "snubber" built into your gauge, or the fitting behind your gauge to prevent "flicker" of the gauge. To rule this out, try another gauge temporarily to see if that one comes up any faster.

Don't forget that the last thing to see oil is the gauge. The motor is getting pressure long before the gauge sees it.

Bill - The delay you're seeing is the time it takes the pump to fill the filter canister with oil. (The filter has no check valve and thus drains down when the engine is stopped.) Both my SH and SM take 10 - 15 seconds begin to show pressure on a cold start - have always been this way.

BTW - Steady 75 psi once it builds up says you've got a healthy oiling system on your 300!!
