I recently aquired an old horse drawn "International" manure spreader built sometime between 1919 and 1924 (according to the 150 years of IH book). My question is; What colors do I paint it? Are the steel wheels cream color? Is the wood painted red or left natural? Back then, International sometimes used a blue color.....is blue used on the spreader? Any help is appreciated.

I've seen two painted similar to each other on different occasions. The wood was red, the beaters and web chain and levers were blue. One had the cream colored wheels and the other had black wheels. Both looked very nice. Who knows if this is correct or not? One good way is to paint it whatever you want, that way people will come to you to tell you that it is wrong! Ha, Ha!

John:

If you click on the Manual link below and go to the Paint, Decal and Other Finish ?'s, you will find a Paint Chart which includes many implements as well as the Paint Committee Decisions.

Also, the Wisconsin Historical Society has all of the Paint Committee Decisions on it's web page which may also be of help, although you will probably have to wade through a bunch of material first.

Hope this helps
