I purchased a schwartz wide front that came off of a SMTA to put on my 54 Super H. I specifically asked the guy if the berrings and hubs from my tractor would fit on to it, or would I have to do something else to make my hubs work. He said that they should go right on. I Should have known better. The're not even close to matching the SMTA axle. What do I have to do to get my hubs to work, or will they even work? The ID of my inner berring is a half inch less than the OD of the axle where the large berring sets. Any help or suggestions will sure be appreciated!!! Thanks

Leonard: Your concerns are quite real but not insurmountable. Make the necessary changes you need and keep the front end. You have a front end with heavy spindles, don't knock that one. The changes will add a bit to the cost, but may be less than broken light spindles.

Contrary to what most people tend to believe today these front ends were not H, M, 300 or 400 front ends. They were just front ends with optional mounting hardware and optional spindles.

Leonard,

You've got the wrong front end all the way around. Take it back to the guy and tell him you want a front end that will fit your tractor.

Those two tractor models look alike, but very little if anything will interchange.

Tryin' to help,

Allan

Was this a heavy duty Schwartz front end? I'm thinking of getting one for my H so I'm trying to get an idea of what they're worth. If you don't mind my asking, what did you pay for it?

Thanks,

Dave

For Dave in CT. Yes it apparently is a heavy duty schwartz, and I think I was in the right place at the right time on it. I got it for $450.00, But I've seen a bunch of them sell for $750.00. Kinda depends on where your located to I think. Leonard

If you bought this from a MTA, they hubs arent your only problem. The steering arm that attachs to the steering bolster has a different hole pattern and the rear saddle is wider than a H or super H. You can purchase the parts new. (Been there and done that.) You can get hubs from a M,SM,400,or 450 and they will fit the front end. They are a 1/4 thicker than an H,SH hub. But your wheels will fit right on no problem. Have done this several time for customers. Hope this helps.

Very simple fix, just buy a pair of SMTA hubs, should be the same as an M I think, then you know it will work, and you will not see any difference to speak of in the outside appearance either.
