IH 584 Question

I am working on a late model IH 584. The parking brake does not hold and you can not get it to by adjusting it. Looked in the I&T book to see what is involved in fixing it and they do not show anything about. Has anyone ever fixed one of them? What all is involved and about how long will it take? It looks to me like the cable goes in the side of the transmission. Hopefully someone can tell me before I take it apart and get in over my head.
Thanks

Phil, There is a parking brake band inside the transmission (actually its part of the range transmission). In order to remove the band you have to take the top cover off the transmission. This involves removing the seat and the tin piece that goes across (the shift levers and 3 point control levers go through this piece). Then you will need to remove the fuel tank since it sits on top of the back part of the transmission cover. Then you will need to drop the three point arms, disconnect any hydraulic lines and electrical wires that are in the way. After you remove the top cover, you will see the parking brake band. All you have to do to remove it is dicconect the linkage from the parking brake and use a punch to remove the pin that holds it together. It really isn't to bad of a repair. Also something else to consider-since your auxillary valves will be exposed for ready access with this repair, it would be a good time to replace all the O-rings so you won't have any leaks down the road. Good luck!
