My old C with a mag would not start this weekend.Ran great when I used it last. Took the coil wire off and had a very weak small orange spark there. Had no spark at all at the plug wires. All the ignition parts are about two years old. Knowing all this where would you guys look first or would you just start replaceing everthing till it works? Thanks for you help.
Paul

Paul, from time to time my old M won't start because of weak spark, I remove the mag, take the plate off the end and using fine emery cloth I give the points a good cleaning and then reassemble. The M usually starts on the second crank when I do this...mags last a long time and although you could have a bad mag it is rare...more likely the points that are the problem..Old and Bob M. concur..... .Mike in Exeter Ontario

I'd check the points first and also maybe the cap, spray the inside of the cap with either when is off the tractor and let it dry if the cap is cracked you will see lines in it, if you do see lines there is your problem. hope this helps

Hi Paul! First thing I'd look at is the points. Either replace 'em or else spray with a bit of degreaser (spray brake cleaner), run an ignition file thru them a few strokes, then spray again. Then make sure they are still gapped correctly.

Also while you've got the mag cover off make sure everthing is clean and dry inside. ...Bob
