I understand that lights and starter were an option on the late F20's. Could the F20 be ordered from the factory with this equipment or was it installed by the dealer? What were the lights like and where were they mounted? I've seen some that were mounted on a post like the H & M but assumed that it wasn't original.

I have two F-20's with lights. One was mounted on the steering post like the H and M's (small lights), with an IH amp meter. The other F20 has the large lights mounted to a mounting post on the axle near the bull gear cover (one on each side of the tractor), and one light mounted on the front of the tractor. The F-20 with large lights has a factory light generator mounted between the gov. and the mag., no signs of a battery was ever connected. The lights die when the engine dies. The other had a battery mounted on the side of the toolbox. I have ran accross an adversiment selling an add on started kit for an F-20. The add was from the 40's.

Hey F20nut
My dad just found a dead f-20 that we want to fix up. It has the light brackets where you said they were and the magneto/generator gone so I can asume that there was a set of lights on it with the battery-less system. Could you send me a few pictures of yours to see how it is set up? Sorry, I know it has been awhile since you posted this. Steve

None of the F-20's came with a starter or lights. Some company (name escapes me)made these for them after market. The dealer may have installed them but not as factory items. I'm in the process of installing a starter on my 38 F-20 now. Hope this helps.

In fact IH did offer F-20s with lights. Several packages were available, often with the Bosch No-Battery lighting system. On the other hand, I've never seen any indication IH offered starters- Heisler made a conversion for sure.
