IH 574 and IH 574 Hydro

I have had a IH 574 for 25 years, but it is now necessary with a full motoroverhaul - apr 10 000 hours on the meter. I have also a front end loader fitted, and use the tractor every day for lifting big bales to our cattle and horses.

I have got my hands on an 574 Hydro 1979, with only 3 200 hours on the meter. It looks very nice and orderly, the cabin is in "luxury state" comparing with my old 1973 mod, so I have plans to replace the old one, and keep the old one for spare parts.

Yesterday I used the Hydro for the first time, going 2 hours with a trailer to fetch sowdust for the stable.

The trailer, loaded, weigh about 4 tons.

On the way home the warning light for the hydraulics lit, and I had problems getting forward, as it seemed like the oilpressure on the Hydrostatic system was failing. I had to wait for the oil to cool down, but the problem came back quikly, and in the farm road, wich is steep, it was almost impossible to get up the hill.
I have checked the oil level on the pin, and it is about 20 mm higher than the marks, I understand that this is normal due to an ekstra 25 liter oil for the Hydrostatic system.

I do not know when/if filters have been changed, can bad filters be the problem? The oil looks ok, light in colour.

After it had cooled down, I tried the torque with the brakes. In high revers I could hold the tractor, even with engine speed at 1700 rpm, while in forward the engine stopped.

If the answer is that something is wrong with the Hydrostatic system, such as gascets, o-rings, etc - is this a costly repair?

I can still the return it, but I would really like to have the Hydro, it will be great with the frontloader.

Hope somebody can give me some advice

Vermund

If oil and filters don't not fix it you almost have to find a dealer and have the Hydro flow rated to find the problem. Could be relief valve on for forward one fro reverce or could be just the charge pump, no way to tell with out flow rateing.

The 1st thing I would do is change the filters (there should be 2) .One is for the hydro itself and the other for the entire system .Change the Hytran in the rearend. This hopefully will solve the problem . I was wondering about your comment about checking the torque as a Hydro won't have a TA. With a Hydro it is important to keep fluid clean ,keep outlets plugged when not in use etc.
Hope this helps.

Probably I used a wrong word - what I did was trying if the Hydrostat "slipped" and it did!
